Mbappé Scores Twice as Real Madrid Beat Athletic Club 3-0
Real Madrid stopped their three-game La Liga winless streak with a convincing 3-0 victory over Athletic Club. Kylian Mbappé was the match’s star, scoring twice and assisting once.
Madrid started well, with Mbappé scoring in the seventh minute following a lightning break from midfield. He raced past defenders and scored comfortably from the edge of the area to make it 1-0.
Just before halftime, Eduardo Camavinga scored Madrid’s second goal with a straightforward header from close range. Mbappé delivered the cross, creating the opportunity with excellent timing and control.
Mbappé scored again in the 59th minute with a long-range effort from about 30 metres. His goal gave Madrid a comfortable 3-0 lead and demonstrated his best form this season.
The French attacker has scored 30 goals for his club and country this season. He has also scored seven goals in his last three games, demonstrating his exceptional fitness.
Madrid coach Xabi Alonso stated that the team performed with good intensity and focus from the start. He appreciated Mbappé’s mobility and collaboration with Vinícius Júnior in attack.
Thibaut Courtois, the goalkeeper, feels fortunate to play alongside Mbappé because of his incredible speed and finishing ability. He referred to Mbappé as “unstoppable” when in this shape.
However, Madrid had two injury concerns: Camavinga and Trent Alexander-Arnold both exited the game early. The club will assess its situation before the next game.
Athletic Club struggled to create opportunities and now has only two victories in its past eight matches. Their attack appeared to be quiet, and Madrid’s defense handled them comfortably.
With this victory, Madrid remains only one point behind Barcelona in the league rankings. The race for the La Liga title is very competitive and thrilling.
Madrid will play their next home game against Celta Vigo at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium. Athletic Club will face Atletico Madrid in their next league game.
