Cristiano Ronaldo Inches Closer to 1000 Career Goals – Countdown Begins

By Footbalio

Cristiano Ronaldo is getting really close to 1,000 career goals now. He is just 44 away from that big number, and it shows how he is still such a huge part of football even after all these years. As of late December 2025, he has 956 official goals from his clubs and with Portugal.

The guy is 40 years old, but he keeps saying he will not stop playing until he hits 1,000, as long as injuries do not get in the way. At the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai, he talked about it and said, “My passion is high, and I want to continue.
I always enjoy playing football, and I want to keep going.” That kind of drive, it seems like it is what keeps him going strong.

In 2025 alone, Ronaldo put away 40 goals in club and international games. Not many players can keep up that kind of pace at his age. With Al-Nassr this season, 2025/26, he has about 19 or 20 goals already, from the league and cups, so roughly one per game.

Since he joined Al-Nassr back in 2023, there have been stretches where he scores more than a goal a match. It reinforces why people call him one of the top scorers ever.
Analysts from sites like Planet Football and ESPN point out that his fitness is still top-notch, and his motivation too, which probably helps in reaching that milestone.

To get those last 44 goals, based on how he is playing now, he might need around one more year of regular matches. That would be about 4,303 minutes, or something like 48 games. So the 1,000th could happen in the 2026/27 season, if he stays healthy. I think that is a reasonable guess, but who knows with football?

Things that could speed it up include doing well in the 2026 World Cup. Portugal should go far in that, and Ronaldo could score a bunch there. Plus, he is dominating in the Saudi Pro League and the AFC Champions League still.
His confidence is high about making it, he says, “I will reach the number for sure, if no injuries,” which shows his ambition and how durable he is physically.

For fans everywhere, the wait for that 1,000th goal is on now. It is going to be a big moment in football history, I suppose. Some might say it is just a number, but others see it as proof of his consistency at 40.
