The Inter Miami CF had a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls on Saturday, April 11, 2026, to add to the frustrating beginning of the defending champions at their new residence. In the meantime, Vancouver Whitecaps and Nashville SC made strong statements to strengthen their positions at the top of the Western and Eastern Conferences.
Same Old Story Miami New Stadium. The sold out Nu Stadium, Lionel Messi on the field, and the defending MLS Cup champions seeking to create momentum.
The last whistle was, however, a drawing-room experience – another home draw.At the end of the game, Messi had a free kick that was saved in the stoppage time and Inter Miami was at a draw with the New York Red Bulls, without a win yet in their new stadium.
It was a 2 half game. Jorge Ruvalcaba put the Red Bulls at an early advantage before Inter Miami responded via Germán Berterame – assisted by Messi – and Mateo Silvetti to take the reins.
But the visitors were not going to leave submissively.
Adri Mehmeti scored the first MLS goal in the 77th minute which made New York level.
scoring a gorgeous goal on the behalf of the teenage striker and depriving Miami of the three points.
It was no accidental slip.
The inaugural home match at Nu Stadium by the Miami first team was a 2-2 draw against Austin FC, which was also terminated the same way. The champions are yet to win on their own turf.
Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano admitted that the rest of the team must do more than just Messi, as they need others to chip in, to keep on winning games.
It is a just point. Although Messi is the heartbeat of all Miami do, no other player had managed to score more than one goal in eight total games leading to this game. The supporting cast will have to produce more in order to ensure that Miami can contend to win MLS titles two years in a row.
Vancouver Are Relentless -And They Mean Business.
As Miami faltered, Vancouver Whitecaps went into their match on Saturday with a 5-0-1 record, thus being the form team in the entire league.
The Whitecaps are not merely winning they are doing it fashionably. Brian White got 2 goals in his second game in a row and Sebastian Berhalter scored the first goal on the penalty spot and two assists in a recent 6-0 destruction against Minnesota United. Such brutality is not common in MLS.
This form is no accident. Vancouver has made the Final of the MLS Cup and have taken that swagger into 2026 with a team that is ravenous, well-organised, and clinical in front of goal.
The Whitecaps are every inch a title contender. Should this run be sustained, then the entire Western Conference has all to be concerned.
Nashville SC Are Making History in the East
On Saturday, Nashville SC went on with their incredible beginning of the 2026 season and visited the Bank of America Stadium, where they had to play Charlotte FC. The Boys in Gold have a 5-1-1 start to an MLS season the most successful opening in the history of the club and is not defeated in 11 of their 12 matches in all competitions in 2026.
Nashville are leading the Eastern Conference with 13 points in six matches. Their emergence has been founded on a full squad restructure. The addition of winger Cristian Espinoza in the winter window gave Rochin one of the most dangerous attacking trios in the league with Hany Mukhtar and top scorer Sam Surridge (who is in the lead in the Golden Boot race with seven goals).
Patrick Yazbek, the midfielder, remains an excellent player in the engine room, adding vitality, pushing, and vision to the Nashville midfield. He is not the only cause that this Nashville side is not the same as it used to be in past years.
On the defensive side, they have been no less impressive. Goalkeeper Brian Schwake has three clean sheets in the league and has gone into the starting line and performed.
It is a group that is just at the right time.
The Next Step in MLS 2026?
The initial MLS rankings are quickly forming. Vancouver was a leader of the Western Conference. The team to beat in the East is Nashville. And Inter Miami – though they have issues at home – have not lost in their past half-dozen MLS games in general and still have the ability to change that.
The message of this weekend results is however plain the defending champions cannot afford more dropped points at Nu Stadium. Their competitors are not waiting.
The season of the 2026 MLS is young. But the table is already narrating an interesting tale.
